Know Your Rights Forum Set in Newbury Park

The forum is for those concerned about the rights of immigrants and all in the community who may come in contact with authorities.

Buen Vecino (Good Neighbor), an advocacy group based in eastern Ventura County, will lead a know your rights Community Forum in Newbury Park on Saturday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3327 Old Conejo Road. The forum is aimed at educating allies who are concerned about safeguarding the rights of immigrants and all members of the community who may encounter authorities, whether it be at home, in the workplace or out in public.

The mission of Buen Vecino is to promote understanding of the human dignity of all people and cultivate an environment in which all are treated with respect, compassion and fairness. It pursues its mission through education, including know your rights training and resources, and bringing to the community an enhanced awareness of the causes and effects of immigration.

The forum presentation will be led by Attorney Rafael Torres III, who will discuss know your rights information, current developments in the world of immigration and solutions to common issues. Rafael is an immigration attorney at The Torres Law Firm in Simi Valley. He has successfully represented clients regarding green cards, citizenship, asylum and defense against deportation, among other issues.
