Local YMCAs Adventure Guides BBQ: August 29

The Southeast Ventura County YMCA will be hosting a free "Taste of Adventure Guides" barbeque on Saturday, August 29.

The Southeast Ventura County YMCA will be hosting a free “Taste of Adventure Guides” barbeque on Saturday, August 29 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Willow Elementary School (29026 Laro Dr.) in Agoura Hills. Parents in the greater Conejo Valley and Moorpark can ask questions and sign up for the program at the barbeque.

The evening will include obstacle courses, archery, gaga ball, music and games. It is designed to introduce parents and their kids to Adventure Guides. YMCA staff and current program participants will be available to provide more information, answer questions and lead activities.

Adventure Guides’ father-son/daughter pairs join other families in their neighborhood or school and usually meet at member homes for games, crafts and stories in addition to special events. Programs are available for kindergarteners and first and second graders (Y-Adventure Guides) and third graders and up (Y-Trailblazers).

“Parents and kids take part in outdoor activities, camping and monthly meetings,” says John Napotnik, Triunfo Y program director. “These activities help foster a lifetime of understanding and companionship as parent and child grow closer together.”

Some of the planned special events include a pinewood derby, winter and fall campouts and community service activities.
