Meet An “Amazing” Who Shares The Power Of Compassion
Francine Christophe, 88, tells the astonishing story of her WWII experiences as a 10-year-old in concentration camps.

Francine Christophe, at 88, tells the astonishing story of her WWII experience as a ten year old girl in the concentration camps where she and her mother were incarcerated because of their Jewish faith, following the capture of her father. A story Francine has told for many years through her books and poems as well as to elementary and high school students. Although she shares the horrors of that time, she also shares the incredible lessons of compassion her mother taught her.
Francine’s mother worried that a woman in the camp about to give birth wouldn’t have the strength to survive the process. She asked if Francine was willing to give the two bars of chocolate she’d held on to for when “things really got bad” to this woman. Francine didn’t bat an eye, and handed over her only treasure. Decades later, when Francine was sharing her story at a conference, a woman walked up to her and told her “I was that baby.” A powerful reminder of the power of good.
