The Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park is holding its Healthy Kids Week, April 24 through April 30. The week will be filled with free activities designed to give kids physical and mental workouts. Activities include ballet, family yoga, a jumping jack challenge, art projects, karate, hip-hop dance, swimming and hands-on science experiments. The week will also encourage good eating habits.
Kids who sign up receive a Healthy Kids Week passport. They collect a stamp for their passport whenever they attend a program or event. Those who turn in their stamped passports between April 30 and May 7 are eligible for prizes.
The week is part of the national YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day initiative to improve health and well-being for kids and families. It is celebrated at nearly 1,300 Ys across the country.

“The goal is to encourage kids to stay physically and mentally active as we head into the summer months,” says Kara Kaplan, the Miller Y’s aquatics director. “It’s important to show kids that it’s much more fun to stay active instead of sitting in front of the television or playing computer games.”
The Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park is at 320 Via Las Brisas in Dos Vientos. For more information, call the Miller Y at 805-480-0309 or email Kara Kaplan at KKaplan@sevymca.org.
