New Series to Showcase Community Talent

The Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Community Forum will launch a new series of events to showcase local creative artists of all types on Saturday, June 7, with the presentation of "Muses I" from 3 to 5:30 p.m. in Newbury Park.
Musicians, poets, storytellers, magicians, dancers, artists, jugglers and other talents are invited to sign up for an open microphone event with eight-minute time slots. Poet Bobbi Rudin, who has published her first book of poems, "A Poetic Journal Thru the Cycles of Life," will be the featured performer.
All forms of creative expression will be welcomed at the event in a safe, supportive family atmosphere. Signups for each eight-minute slot will begin at 2:30 p.m. on June 7, with a limited number of spaces available.
"There are so many talented, creative people in our various communities," said Matthew Weisman, one of the event's organizers. "We thought it might be fun and worthwhile to bring some of them together to share their work and ideas for an entertaining and perhaps inspiring afternoon."
Rudin was a closet poet for most of her life until about 12 years ago, when she joined a poetry circle. Her poems and poetic works of prose have been published in literary journals.
Rudin said she is passionate about sharing her soul expressions in community while also seeing, hearing and honoring others.
"Muses I," the first in a planned series, is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted.
The Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located at 3327 Old Conejo Road in Newbury Park. For information, visit forum.cvuuf.org or phone (805) 374-9818.
