New-and-Improved Movie Theater to Hold Grand Reopening

Following a five-month renovation, the Regency Agoura Stadium 8 Cinemas is reopening with old-fashioned concession prices through the weekend.

Just in time for the summer blockbusters, the Regency Agoura Stadium 8 Cinemas, formerly the Regency Agoura Hills, is having its grand reopening on Thursday night.

During the past five months, the movie theater has undergone a complete remodeling with new stadium seating featuring "high-back rocking chair love seats, D-Box motion seats along with new lobby and theater finishes," said Lyndon Golin, president of Regency Theatres, based in Calabasas. The complex also features multiple Dolby Digital 3D auditoriums, THX Sound and wall-to-wall screens.

The grand reopening will be a Cinco de Mayo-themed VIP reception that will include a special screening of the Friday release Something Borrowed, said Golin.

"Starting Friday, we will be offering free popcorn and dollar drinks and hot dogs [to the public] all weekend as part of the celebration," Golin said.

Golin's company owns 23 theaters in Southern California, he said.

Though box office sales had dropped off by 20 percent during early 2011, Golin said he is "not concerned," having gone ahead with making a "substantial investment" in the renovation.

"Movies have always been pretty resilient," he said.

Also playing on the big screen this weekend: Thor in 2D and 3D, Fast Five in D-Box, Something Borrowed, Rio, Water for Elephants, Prom and Hoodwinked.
