Photo Gallery: AYSO Opening Day
The Gunners enjoy an exciting opening day game against the Lightning.
Saturday featured perfect weather and great match play at A.E. Wright Middle School between the Gunners and the Lightning. Given the energetic nature of this group of 10- and 11-year-old boys, there was plenty of excitement to go around.
Early in the second quarter, the Gunners were down by three goals. Not to be discouraged, Vincent DeFranco responded by scoring a hat trick, with a "thank you" assist by Sean Hesen. The Gunners were on a roll and scored yet again with a perfectly placed corner kick by Micah Moss to the head of Hesen, who put it in the net.
The midfield was anchored by Trevor Campbell, Noah Rios and Jude Hayes. Moss and Armand Arbadi provided exceptional defense. Despite terrific goalie play by Chase Sinclair, Ryan Allen and Hesen, and an offense ignited by DeFranco and Kenneth Shin, the Lightning won the game with a 6-4 victory.
