Roy Zimmerman Concert

Tickets
are on sale for “Wake Up Call,” a concert of funny songs with messages about
peace and justice to be performed by nationally known folk satirist Roy
Zimmerman on Saturday, Aug. 17 in Newbury Park.

 The
8 p.m. concert will be presented by the Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship Community Forum at 3327 Old Conejo Road.

 Zimmerman,
known for his unabashedly progressive satire, entertained packed houses at
CVUUF in two appearances in 2011. Last year, he traveled 47,000 miles with his
wife and co-writer, Melanie Harby, in a 49-state concert tour during the
presidential campaigns. “Wake Up Call” is a funny, tuneful look at what they
saw and heard across America.

 Humorous
songs like “Abstain With Me” and heartfelt ones like “Hope, Struggle and
Change” contain calls to action along with biting wit. Targets of Zimmerman’s
satire include war, poverty, greed, injustice and homophobia.

 The
90-minute concert will include new songs from the singer/songwriter, who has
recorded 12 albums of original songs over the last 20 years.
