“It’s one of the fastest-growing industries,” said Berkowitz, who purchased the business in 2009.
Open seven days a week, Camp Bow Wow is for for dogs of all breeds and sizes. Dogs can be dropped off, either for day care or for overnight camp.
Upon registration and after filling out the requisite paperwork, all dogs need to be evaluated by a certified camp counselor, which is free.
“It’s just to make sure that the camp is the right environment for the dog,” said Berkovitz, adding that the dogs will be checked for temperament and activity level.
If it’s the right fit, dog owners can start dropping off as early as 7 a.m. Day camp prices range from $32 a day to $288 for a 10-day package.
The Camp Bow Wow Edge
For overnight camp, Berkovitz believes they have an edge. “Most places are closed on Sundays, but we’re not,” said Berkovitz. “You can pick up your dog then and not incur an extra day charge, unlike with other places.”
Speaking of charges, Berkovitz likes to tout Camp Bow Wow’s all-inclusive price scheme. “What we quote is what you pay,” he said. “There are no hidden charges or extras if you make requests or if your dog has special dietary needs.”
Even the web cam monitoring system or “Camper Cam” is a standard feature at Camp Bow Wow. “This can be accessed online and owners can check on their dogs if they’re at work or wherever,” said Berkovitz.
Video cameras are set up in various areas of the camp, like the lounge, as well as inside and outside play areas. For iPhone users, there is a Camp Bow Wow app that makes monitoring even more convenient.
Holiday Planning
“People are finding us online and through referrals from satisfied clients,” said Berkovitz. “We also have an attractive and recognizable logo and participate in community events.”
Camp Bow Wow will be the title sponsor of the .
But even before the annual fall festival, Berkovitz anticipates that preparations will be under way for the upcoming November and December holidays. “This early, we are already thinking of bringing in more staff,” he said.
Berkovitz offers some advice to lessen your holiday stress. “If you know you will be needing overnight dog camp during the holidays, now would be a good time to reserve your spot,” he said.
