Simi YMCA Christmas Tree Lot Opens December 4

Continuing a tradition that began in the 1970s, the Simi Valley Family YMCA will sell Christmas trees starting December 4. The Simi Valley Y's Men's Club, a YMCA service organization, runs the tree lot. Its 22 members staff the lot each year along with YMCA board members.

The lot will receive 820 trees. Most are Nobile firs between 5' and 9' tall. The trees come from Oregon where they packed in ice to stay fresh. They are shipped to the Simi Y within four days of harvesting. Once they arrive on the lot, they are unloaded, given a fresh cut at the base, put in water and set out for display.

"We sell out every year," says Curtis Brown, president of the Simi Valley Y's Men's Club and a tree lot volunteer for 18 years. "Our members are a great group of volunteers who love to serve the community. We enjoy seeing the many families who return year after year."

Volunteers and the public are required to wear face coverings at the tree lot and follow social distancing guidelines. Trees rows will be spaced 12' feet apart.

All proceeds from tree sales go back into the community to help those in need.

The Christmas tree lot will be open through December 18 (or when all trees are sold). Hours are 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The tree lot is located at the Simi YMCA (3200 Cochran St., corner of Galena Ave. and Cochran St., in Simi Valley).
