Officer Zavala spearheads Oxnard Police Department’s participation in the Law Enforcement Torch Run.  The department’s runner numbers have steadily increased over the years due to Zavala’s efforts.  This year, Oxnard Police Department was represented by over 90 runners who received the Special Olympics Torch from Ventura Police Department and handed it off to the California Highway Patrol after a 13-mile route through the cities of Oxnard and Port Hueneme.

The Michael W. Harahan Outstanding Adult Volunteer Award has been recognizing volunteers that go above and beyond since 1999, through funding provided by the Simmons-Balser Foundation. The award is presented to stand-out individuals from each Special Olympics Southern California regional program and recipients are selected by their peers.
