Agoura Hills' newest gastropub, The LAB Brewing Co., recently opened its doors and is celebrating the "Official" Grand Opening on Thursday. To mark the day, all house brews will be half off ($3) all night long. The kitchen is run by Chef Moez Megji, who previously opened Fins Seafood Grill and Moz Buddha Lounge. The menu features eclectic fresh American cuisine rather than your typical "bar food." Of course, burgers and pizza are on it, but also look for charcuterie platters, ceviche, BBQ duck quesadilla, short ribs, white lasagna and Alaskan cod in a hazelnut sage brown butter sauce. Every food category on the menu has a "lab" theme - Petri dishes, Botanicals, Solids, Liquids, Sphericals, and so on. You get the picture. Stop by on a weekend for a DJ and live music.
The Six Restaurant soft-opened yesterday on the Coldwater Curve in Studio City in the old Risotto/Spumante location which has been redone with low lights, plus recycled and found materials resulting in a sleek, yet cozy style with a glint of old Hollywood. Since it's currently in soft opening mode, the full menu won't be available until the end of the week. The Six is a departure from the gastropub that seems to be popping up all over and instead is a restaurant (no sports TVs) which features an eclectic, seasonal menu that changes every four months emphasizing the concept of “six” in all categories, serving up the likes of their signature burger, pizza, steak frites, mussels, vanilla roasted beets, mac n' cheese, braised short rib pot pie, jidori chicken and more. Desserts include The Signature Six Banana Crème Pie. As for libations, there's signature draughts and specialty brew bottles, carefully sourced wines and signature cocktails. The Six is the second to open by seasoned restaurateurs Will Karges and Jake King. The first is on Pico in West LA. Stay tuned for a full review once the menu is in full operation. 12650 Ventura Blvd., Studio City; 818-861-2319.
