The Interruption of Christ at Christmas

Maybe you haven’t considered how God interrupted the world with Messiah.

In the world back then, religion had become status quo and filled with rules.  So, God interrupted to show that life with Him is about a relationship.

Mary and Joseph were nostril deep in wedding plans and BAM, their lives were interrupted with news of her virgin pregnancy.

Shepherds were tending to the mundane task of watching sheep sleep when suddenly the night sky tore open and angels began singing and instructions were given for them to go and worship the Messiah.

That was an interruption.

Herod had political aspirations and worked tirelessly to eliminate anyone who was a threat to his kingdom.  He even killed family members who he thought might want to overthrow him.  And then…seers from the east came and inquired about a child who had been born who was to become a KING. Herod’s tightly controlled plans were interrupted.

And for everyone who cried out to God for His help and comfort, Jesus became an interruption to sorrow; an interruption to hopelessness.

As Jesus grew, He didn’t stop interrupting.  Read the gospels.

He never attended a funeral He didn’t interrupt by raising the dead back to life.

One day a sinful woman was thrown at His feet and the crowd was ready to kill her for violations of religious law and Jesus interrupted their condemnation with His grace.

He was always interrupting.

Fishermen who had a business plan, had invested in boats, and had dreams for their future, were invited by Christ to give themselves to the business of following Him.  Interruption.

He interrupted blindness with sight

He interrupted sadness with joy

He interrupted despair with miracles.

And Jesus can interrupt your life with a miracle.

No one knew that a pregnant maiden had traveled to Bethlehem and in a moment the HOPE of the world was born.

You have no idea how close your miracle might be; no idea how near your answer to prayer might be.

You have no idea how God might interrupt your life in all the right ways and point you in a new direction, with new purpose and new joy and deeper satisfaction.

As this special week unfolds, give space in your soul, belief in your heart and room in your thinking to welcome the interruption of Christ in your Christmas.
