When you open up a fitness magazine or walk into a big commercial gym filled with fit people you may think you are looking at healthy, fit people. Just because someone is fit doesn't make them healthy!
When starting a fitness program the main goal and mindset should be getting healthy. When this is the mindset from the beginning it will make your journey much more successful. Looking fit, getting stronger, loosing weight and feeling better are just a few of the benefits and side effects of getting healthy.
When walking into a fitness center it is key that you are focused on your health. What I mean by this is, if you have injuries, what do you need to do to work around those injuries so you don't re-injure yourself? What can you do to make your injuries stronger and less painful? Whatever your fitness goals are, what do you need to do to reach those goals not only in the gym but outside of the gym?
A big part of fitness is diet. A lot of "fitness" diets tend to be a "quick fix" and focus on "getting lean". Getting lean and skinny is just an added bonus to being healthy. Just because you are skinny doesn't mean you are healthy.
It is important to learn how to eat for life, not just for a quick fix. Work on creating healthy eating habits that will stick for life. The idea is quality of life. Eating in a way that is going to keep you from getting sick, feeling sleep and sluggish, helps to reduce inflammation in the body and help with your overall well being.
Many fitness magazines promote diets and supplements that focus on getting skinny and lean. This doesn't mean healthy. Many of these products are filled with synthetic chemicals and can do harm to your body, especially on a long term basis.
Remember to keep your fitness goals about increasing your overall health and wellness. When you focus on this everything will fall into place. Consistency is the key to success so stay focused and you will reach your goals.
