Women Hold Up Half the Sky

Where/When: Through May 20, Skirball

Why Go: Inspired by the critically acclaimed book Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn. Featuring documentary photographs, visual art, innovative sound installations, and interactive opportunities for visitors to get involved, Women Hold Up Half the Sky addresses gender equality as the human rights cause of our time. On Select Saturdays and every Sunday, 2:30 p.m., join representatives from humanitarian organizations as they provide first-hand accounts of the work they do to help improve conditions for women locally and worldwide.

Pricing: Special exhibit is included with museum admission$10 General, $7 seniors and full-time students, $5 children 2–12, free to members and children under 2; free to all on Thursdays

Franklin’s Movie Magic 

Where/When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Franklin Canyon Park, Sooky Goldman Nature  Center, 2600 Franklin Canyon Drive, Beverly Hills (off of Mulholland).

Why Go: Go on a two hour hike to Franklin Canyon, known for movie and television locations since the 1930s, including It Happened One Night, The Silence of the Lambs, The Andy Griffith Show and more were filmed in this park.

Birds of Winter 

Where/When: Sunday, 8:30-11 a.m., King Gillette Ranch, 26800 Mulholland Hwy., Calabasas

Why Go: Find out why there are so many birds in the area during the winter months. Bring binoculars and join a 1-mile accessible walk. Beginners are welcome. 2.5 hours.  

Pricing: Free programs; parking $7 inside park

Giggle Gaggle Kids Comedy Theatre

When/Where: Saturday and Sundays 2-3 p.m. (ongoing with performance every week), Joy Theatre @ the Raven Playhouse, 5233 Lankershim Blvd, North Hollywood.

Why Go: Kids ages 4-11 perform all things comedy: sketch, stand-up, characters, improv and music. A fun afternoon for kids of all levels to get up on stage and build confidence for the future while entertaining and bringing laughter to others. Kids in the audience can help on stag,e too! Twenty-five percent of the door goes back to all the performers. They are available for parties!

Pricing: (Cash or Check at the door) $8 each admission 1-5 people; $7 each admission for 6-11 people; $6 each admission over 12 people.
