"Wade Through Deep Water" brings to life the Bible story of Miriam, sister of Moses, who according to Scripture schemed to save him when he was left in a basket at the Nile as an infant, and who helped lead her people through the Red Sea to freedom. Her drumming and dance speak to the dangers of privatizing water, desertification and ignoring the voice of the divine feminine. John the Baptist calls the audience to a baptism with dirty water because of watershed damage caused by humankind.
There will be a brief discussion after the performance, and then Ched Myers, author and activist theologian, will offer a brief introduction to "watershed discipleship," a view of watershed protection from theological, ecological and practical perspectives.
The event is presented by the Conejo Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Community Forum. There is a suggested donation of $15 at the door for the performance at 3327 Old Conejo Road in the Songbird Office Park (enter at Ruth Drive). No one will be turned away for lack of funds. For information contact Dana Ryon through the church office at (805) 498-9548 or visit cvuuf.org/community-forum.
