Triunfo YMCA Model United Nations Information Night: February 20

Students in sixth through eighth grade in Westlake Village, Agoura Hills and Oak Park  can learn about the Triunfo YMCA Model United Nations (MUN) program at an  information night, Thursday February 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The meeting  will be held at Willow Elementary School YMCA childcare site (29026 Laro Dr.,  Agoura Hills). Parents are invited to attend.

The statewide MUN program gives  middle-schoolers real-world experience and knowledge of the United Nations. Each Y forms an ambassador delegation representing a specific country.  Students learn about current affairs, politics, economics and diplomacy through weekly meetings.

“Our delegates create an appreciation and understanding  about the world outside their neighborhoods,” says John Napotnik, Triunfo Y  program director. “It’s often a life-changing experience. They also learn  skills that will be beneficial to them throughout their school years and in  their professional life.”

MUN delegations attend two conferences: a training  conference at Camp Roberts in Paso Robles on March 14 through March 16 and the  Model UN Summit conference in Irvine on April 24 through 27. Delegations from  throughout California attend these events. At the Model UN Summit, delegates give speeches, debate international issues, participate in committees and vote on initiatives—all similar activities of the United Nations.

For more information, contact Napotnik at the Triunfo
YMCA at 818-707-9622, jnapotnik@triunfoymca.org.
