Unruly Lowriders Trigger Massive Police Response in Zuma

A large number of lowriders packed Zuma Beach’s parking lots today, and when some drivers began burning rubber and cutting donuts, they triggered a large number of sheriff’s deputies to be sent there.

Sheriff’s deputies from stations in Marina Del Rey and West Hollywood, as well as deputies form the Lost Hills Station in Calabasas, were called in to Zuma Beach when the situation “got pretty dangerous to the public,” Lt. Jim Royal told City News Service.

Zuma Beach’s large parking lot had filled up with lowriders and beachgoers by noon, “and PCH has just been a crawl all day,” Royal said. Drivers began “misbehaving” with burnouts in the inching traffic on the coastal road, and cutting donuts in the parking lots.

‘And this is on top of packed beach conditions today,” Royal said.

He said a large number of low-rider vehicle drivers started driving unsafely and in manners threatening public safety at Trancas Beach and the western end of the Zuma Beach parking lot, near Guernsey Drive.

A sheriff’s helicopter orbited low, a fairly uncommon site in Malibu.

The City of Malibu hires the sheriff’s office to provide police services in Malibu, and also pays for extra “beach patrol” deputies to concentrate on Zuma Beach, which has the largest parking lots in the Santa Monica Bay.
