AMP Encourages Conservation To Prevent Rolling Blackouts

A Flex Alert is in place through Wednesday. Rolling blackouts were ordered on both Friday and Saturday.

ALAMEDA, CA — Charge your electric vehicle and personal electronics now, and not during the peak demand for electricity between 3 and 10 p.m. That's the message from Alameda Municipal Power.

A Flex Alert remains in effect from the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) which oversees the state's energy use and ensures that the power grid has enough electricity to meet demand.

The Flex Alert runs through Wednesday.

CAISO ordered rolling blackouts on both Friday and Saturday nights. Despite a warning on Sunday, no rotating outages were ordered. The power outages in Alameda on Sunday were caused by lightning strikes to a substation and a power pole.

Finish laundry before 3 p.m., set the timer on your dishwasher to run at 1 or 2 a.m., and switch off as many power strips as possible to conserve electricity.
