📰 News we're reading

• USS Hornet fundraising for upgrades needed to stay in Alameda (ktvu.com) — Alameda’s beloved USS Hornet museum may leave town unless it can quickly raise at least $250,000 for safety upgrades the city now requires. With event capacity capped at 660 until more exits are added, the nonprofit is fundraising for a new gangway and other improvements while weighing a possible move to a busier port like San Francisco.

• U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Waesche returns to Alameda after successful 113-day patrol in Bering Sea (seapowermagazine.org) — A U.S. Coast Guard cutter and its 120-person crew have just returned to their homeport in Alameda after a demanding 113-day patrol in the Bering Sea. The team rescued mariners and hikers, tested new drones, and completed the Coast Guard’s first-ever fueling-at-sea exercise with another cutter. Their work strengthens Arctic operations while keeping commercial fishing and maritime borders safer.

• Just Lovely! Bay Area Transit Tax Measure Qualifies For November Ballot After Signature Drive (claycord.com) — Alameda County voters will help decide this November whether to approve the Connect Bay Area Act, a regional sales tax to fund struggling transit systems like AC Transit and BART. Backers say their record-breaking signature drive shows strong support, while an ongoing financial review aims to ensure agencies use any new money efficiently and transparently.
