Two-For-$22 Admission Today At Alameda Pinball Museum

ALAMEDA, CA — The chorus of balls ricocheting off bumpers, the sharp crack of flippers snapping into action, ringing bells, electronic chimes, buzzers, and the unmistakable clink of quarters.

These are the sounds of pinball and today in Alameda could mean 100 playable machines, vintage arcade history, and a one-day discount on entry at the Pacific Pinball Museum.

Today's "2-for-$22 Tuesday" entry gives pairs of visitors access to more than 100 playable pinball machines from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Pinball traces its roots to the French game bagatelle, played in the 1700s by launching balls across a slanted board with pegs. Modern electric pinball emerged in the 1930s, while the introduction of flippers in 1947 transformed the game into the skill-based pastime recognized today.

The museum showcases that evolution by keeping up vintage machines representing decades of design, artwork, engineering, and pop culture.

The nonprofit museum's collection spans machines from the 1940s through today, along with earlier tabletop games that helped inspire modern pinball.

Visitors can also browse rotating exhibits, vintage jukeboxes, and colorful murals while learning how the game evolved over the past century.
