After 13 Years, A Popular Peruvian Restaurant In The East Bay Has Closed

OAKLAND, CA — Pucquio, a popular Peruvian restaurant, has closed its doors after thirteen years in Oakland.

The restaurant announced its closure on Thursday and served its last meal on Friday.

"A chapter is closing, but the memories we've shared will last forever," the restaurant shared in a statement on social media on Thursday. "Thank you for every visit, every celebration, and for allowing us to share the flavors of Peru with you. It has been an honor to be part of your story."

During its tenure in the East Bay, Pucquio boasted fresh ingredients and seasonal cuisines, such as its lunch menu cebiches and its chacho mañanero, a slow-cooked pork belly paired with sunny-side-up eggs, refritos and salsa macha.

"Pucquio humbly pays homage to the ancient traditions of the Peruvian cuisine," according to the restaurant's site. "Our aspiration is to share the passion that has been evident in many generations of masters whose culinary jewels can be considered some of the finest examples of Peruvian artistry."

It's unclear why the restaurant closed abruptly or whether there are plans to one day reopen the eatery elsewhere.

Cesar Hernandez, a San Francisco Chronicle food critic, once called Pucquio "the most underrated spot in Oakland's Rockridge."
