• Kitten Rescued From Rusty Metal Pipe At Abandoned Field In Alameda: Police (patch.com) — Alameda readers will appreciate how local Animal Control officers and police staff teamed up to save a frightened kitten trapped in a 10-foot-deep rusty pipe at Ferry Point. After being pulled to safety, the injured and rust-covered kitten, now named Rusty, was cleaned up and placed in a foster home with the dispatcher who first took the distress call.
• AUSD Notes: Alameda school facility projects going forward at full speed (eastbaytimes.com) — Major school construction projects are reshaping campuses across Alameda, with a new Alameda High swim center and tennis courts slated to open this fall and a modern Wood Middle School campus already in use. Work is underway on a new Encinal gym, a rebuilt Otis Elementary at Krusi Park, and a proposed Alameda High athletic field at the former Lum site now undergoing environmental review with active neighborhood input.
• 3Q4 Roland Quizon: Making Lifesaving Skills Accessible to All – Elements for Berkeley Lab (lbl.gov) — A former City of Alameda firefighter-paramedic who retired in 2022 is now using his 24 years of field experience to reshape CPR and AED training at Berkeley Lab. He's pushing for scenario-based, confidence-building classes so more people feel ready to respond effectively in real emergencies, potentially saving lives on and off the job.
