• Drone Cargo Plane Company Eyeing Hangar Lease (alamedapost.com) — Alameda's City Council will decide October 20 whether to lease the long‑vacant Building 11 hangar at Alameda Point to drone cargo startup Poseidon Aerospace, potentially bringing up to 100 jobs and about $1.8 million in annual rent. The 7‑year lease, with options up to 17 years, could reshape the site's future value while the company invests in upgrades and pursues both commercial and military contracts.
• Former California mayor pushes guaranteed income as fix for affordability crisis (foxnews.com) — Alameda's "Rise Up Alameda" guaranteed income pilot just wrapped up, after providing 150 low-income households with $1,000 a month for two years using federal relief funds. City leaders are now reviewing a 24‑month evaluation as national debate grows over whether guaranteed income should expand, while some states move to restrict such programs and others explore new legislation.
• Protecting Oceans (lw.com) — New ocean-cleanup technology has already been constructed and deployed just off the coast of Alameda, helping capture and remove floating plastic before it spreads further across the Pacific. The nonprofit behind it, The Ocean Cleanup, also uses river "Interceptors" worldwide to stop trash before it reaches the sea. Their growing global network has already blocked tens of thousands of tons of pollution, with more projects planned.
