Failing Sewer Lines Along Buena Vista Avenue Leads To Emergency Repairs

EBMUD will hold a virtual meeting Sept. 22 to discuss the emergency repair project.

ALAMEDA, CA — East Bay Municipal Utility District will start the work to repair failing wastewater infrastructure in the sewer along segments of Buena Vista Avenue, between Ohlone and 8th streets in October the city of Alameda announced.

The project is expected to last through February 2023, the city said.

"This major project is being undertaken as an emergency to address possible pipeline failure and the potential for sinkholes," the city said in a news release issued on its website.

During the project, parts of Buena Vista Avenue will be closed in the west bound direction 24/7, the city said, adding that trucks will be diverted from Buena Vista Avenue to Lincoln Avenue between Grand Street and Constitution Way, and street parking will be restricted.

Work will require excavation at three locations along Buena Vista Avenue. Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will include work on some Saturdays, the city said.

"EBMUD will work to control odor; however, there may be intermittent impacts," the city said.

Alameda city officials also announced EBMUD will host a virtual meeting Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m. to discuss the project and answer any questions residents may have.
