Wildlife Officials Seek Public Input On Pacific Halibut Fisheries
Survey results will influence the recommendations made to the Pacific Fishery Management Council and the National Marine Fisheries Service.
ALAMEDA, CA — State wildlife officials are encouraging California residents who are interested in Pacific halibut fisheries to weigh in on an online survey.
Announced Friday, Feb. 3, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking more information on people's angler preferences as it prepares for open fishing dates in the 2023 recreational season. Results will influence the recommendations the department makes to the Pacific Fishery Management Council and the National Marine Fisheries Service.
Last year, the department's Pacific halibut recreational fishery in Northern California opened from May to August with a bag limit of one fish a day until its attainment quota was met. This year's halibut quote will be 39,520 net pounds, which has been the same limit since 2019.
