• L.A. County's New Sales Tax Starts Today. Why Can't the County Spend the Money Yet? (parriva.com) — Alhambra shoppers are now paying an 11% combined sales tax, up 0.5 percentage points due to L.A. County’s Measure ER, even though the county can’t yet spend the money. The added revenue is being held in escrow while a lawsuit over the tax’s legality moves through the courts, so residents shoulder higher costs while the funds’ future remains uncertain. 
• Man Arrested After Threatening Store Employee With Knife During Robbery (newsbreak.com) — An Alhambra man working as a loss prevention officer was threatened with a pocketknife during a robbery outside a Pasadena store on East Colorado Boulevard, but was not injured. Police quickly arrested a 30-year-old Azusa man nearby, recovered the knife and stolen merchandise, and are asking anyone with additional information to contact Pasadena authorities or Crime Stoppers.
