Abracadabra—Animal Magic

John Abrams performs his animal magic show at the Aliso Viejo Library.

Children recently filled the Aliso Viejo Library's community center to watch John Abrams' exotic show, Animal Magic.

In 1997, Abrams was a struggling actor who had a hard time making ends meet. Then he met a magician and decided that's what he could do—but with a twist.

"I did my first solo show about 13 years ago," said Abrams.  "One day I decided to add a chinchilla into the show, and the kids loved it."

With a zoo of pets including snakes, turtles and furry chinchillas, Abrams makes animals appear and vanish in front of everyone's eyes.

But one piece of magic was a clear favorite of the crowd.

"I liked the snake trick," said Rylee Goode. "When the snake sticks out his tongue, it's really funny.

Another member of the audience, Jonathan Notarangelo, agreed.

"I liked when the snake appeared because the box was empty," he said. "I didn't expect a snake to come out."
