Aliso Lacrosse Loses Revenge Game

Aliso lacrosse fails to redeem themselves against league rival.

Aliso Niguel Men’s Lacrosse lost to the Capistrano Valley Cougars 7-5 in a league game Thursday night at Wolverine Stadium.

The Wolverines went into the game confident after a decent game against Great Oak and Capo Valley came in fired up after upsetting league-leading Laguna Hills Tuesday.  The Cougars came out firing scoring three unanswered goals in the first quarter.  They controlled the ball for much of the first and Parker Webb, Robbie Blethen and Matt Dix put in goals to give Capo a 3-0 lead at the end of the first.

The Cougars scored two more times before Aliso would get on the scoreboard.  Michael Traub had two goals for the Wolverines in the second quarter.  Cougar Goalie JT Stanley had six saves in the first half and was crucial in preserving the Capo lead.

After eight minutes of scoreless lacrosse, Traub fed Nathan Smith for a nice goal to narrow the Cougar lead to three.  After a series of penalties and a crease violation, Capo let their clears get a little sloppy and Aliso took advantage.  Nolan Werner cranked a shot past Stanley to give the Wolverines momentum heading into the fourth.

After a six minute block of no scoring, Cougar Midfielder Parker Webb put one past Aliso Goalie Firas Abdeen to extend the lead to three.  After a tripping penalty against Capo, Michael Traub fed Nolan Werner for a goal to cut the lead back down to two.  Despite having the ball the majority of the rest of the game, the Wolverines could not put shots past Stanley and the Cougars came away with the victory.

Aliso Niguel (5-9, 2-4) will play the San Juan Hills Stallions Tuesday at San Juan Hills High.  Capo Valley (6-9, 5-2) will travel Tuesday to play the Tesoro Titans.  Capo clinched a playoff spot with this win and Aliso will now have to rely on a wild card birth in order to make the playoffs.  You can catch Aliso Men’s Lacrosse games live and on replay as well as other Aliso Niguel sporting events courtesy of Kaard Bombe at livestream.com/ansn.
