Aliso Viejo Honors Those Who Served the Country

The city honored 70 local veterans on Thursday for their service to their country and community.

The city of Aliso Viejo on recognized more than 70 local veterans in its sixth annual Veterans Appreciation Program held Thursday, according to city officials.

Held at the Aliso Viejo Conference Center, the event was the city's way of paying homage to the men and women who have bravely served our country, officials said.

"The 48,000 people in Aliso Viejo are thankful for you and your services to our country," said Mayor Carmen Cave. "Whether you served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard or any branch, whether you volunteered, were drafted or served in peace time, we cannot thank you enough for your service and sacrifices."

Each veteran received a city certificate. Guest speaker Captain Bob Meyer, who served in World War II, spoke about some of his experiences.

Mayor Carmen Cave received a special POW/MIA flag from a local veteran that was flown here from Minneapolis.

"This is just a special night and it's our honor and pleasure to give this small token of appreciation and recognition to all of you," Community Services Director Karen Crocker told the crowd.
