Aliso Viejo Park to Get New Playground Structures
Community association officials approve request for bids for structures at Acorn Park.
An Aliso Viejo playground is in for a makeover after a vote by community association officials Monday night.
The Aliso Viejo Community Association board of directors voted 4-0 to solicit bids for proposals to replace playground structures at Acorn Park at the corner of Sanborn and Wood Canyon Drive.
The new structures will include a boulder and spider climbers, similar to monkey bars.

The board approved the decision as part of the consent calendar at its meeting in the City Hall council chambers Feb. 14.
It also approved the 2011 tree pruning schedule, which will be posted on the AVCA website.

Other business
- Rick Ebel, Aliso Viejo resident, asked the board to consider renaming Woodfield Park after Robert Fisher, one of the founding members of a local little league and former AVCA president, who died earlier this year.
“I think it would be a fitting tribute to someone who was here when the community was getting off the ground,” Ebel said after the meeting. Woodfield Park is at 26800 Woodfield Dr. - The community association will hold an Arbor Day celebration at Aliso Viejo Community Park on April 29. The park is next to Aliso Viejo Middle School, 111 Park Ave.
- The board also approved funding to provide four concerts for young children at Grand Park/Town Center Amphitheater.
- The association hopes to begin slope renovation along Aliso Viejo Parkway from the 73 toll road corridor to Aliso Creek Road sometime this year, according to Kirk Elliot, AVCA parks and landscape director.
- The parks and recreation committee is looking for volunteers to join its committee, according Kurt Lind, committee chairman.
- In attendance at the meeting were vice president Erik Sund, treasurer Katie Koster, member-at-large Lisa Naegele and secretary Jim Martin. President Ross Chun was out of town, according to Sund.
The next community meeting will take place March 14 at 7 p.m. in council chambers, 12 Journey Rd.
