Aliso Viejo Prepares Residents For Heavy Rain

More significant rain is on the way to Orange County, and the city of Aliso Viejo prepared residents for the worst of it.

ALISO VIEJO, CA — With another significant storm forecasted Thursday through Saturday, the City of Aliso Viejo reminded residents to take precautions sooner than later.

"The National Weather Service says a strong storm system will move through Southern California late Thursday night through Saturday, bringing heavy precipitation and winds," spokesperson Kelly Tokarski said in recent release.

The time to prepare is now. Not later.

"You can prepare your home for the rain and help prevent runoff by clearing debris from gutters, downspouts and low areas in yards or patios that could cause water back-ups," she said.

Prevent runoff pollution into streets and storm drains by collecting any trash or landscape clippings from your property.

Sandbags are available at Orange County Fire Authority Station 57 in Aliso Viejo at 57 Journey.

Free sand to fill them available from Fire Station 22 in Laguna Woods at 24001 Paseo de Valencia.

"The City does its part to prepare for potential rain each year by cleaning catch basins in September and again in January and February," she said. "Regular street sweeping and patrols help keep debris from blocking drains and causing flooding. During rainy events, crews are on call 24/7 to respond to downed trees and flooding in town."

Remember to report downed trees, flooding and significant issues during business hours by calling 949-425-2530. After hours, call the Sheriff's Department's non-emergency dispatch at 949-770-6011.
