They'll now compete for finalist status and potential scholarships, highlighting strong academic achievement coming right out of the local community.
   

• U.S. Open: Tiafoe rallies past Aliso Viejo's Michelsen in 5-set quarterfinal (dailynews.com) — Aliso Viejo tennis standout Alex Michelsen came agonizingly close to his first Grand Slam semifinal, falling in five sets to Frances Tiafoe after leading by two sets and 3–0 in the fifth at the U.S. Open. The 22-year-old's breakout run in New York, where he hadn't dropped a set before this match, still marks a major milestone for the local rising star.
