Fire In Aliso Viejo Near Don Juan Avila Elementary School

A fire burned near Don Juan Avila Elementary School in Aliso Viejo. "Way too close for comfort," mother Susan Braisby said of her son's pic.

ALISO VIEJO, CA — A brush fire was reported in the 2600 block of Wood Canyon, near Don Juan Avila Elementary School on Wednesday. The blaze was reported just before noon, according to witnesses. One witness was transported to the hospital for minor burn injuries related to the fire, according to Orange County Fire Authority.

"There was a small threat of structure damage to neighboring apartment complex," Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz said. The fire was contained to a 1/4 acre, with no damage to structures, however a wrought iron fence was scorched.

Witnesses shared photos of the blaze burned in between the school's soccer field and the neighboring apartment building.

"This was way too close for comfort," mother Susan Braisby said of the incident, captured with her son's cell phone camera.

Children at PE on the field saw the fire and immediately sent pictures and video to their parents. Many students were kept inside the school building, according to social media reports.

Residents of the Aliz Apartment building watched as firefighters battled the fast-moving blaze in the brush between school field and the apartment fence line.

Orange County Fire Authority will be investigating the cause.
