A firefighter was burned fighting the blaze.

A two-alarm blaze at a multi-unit building in the Laguna Woods retirement community today left a firefighter with a second-degree arm burn and claimed the life of a resident’s pet.
Orange County Fire Authority personnel were dispatched to the 2300 block of Via Mariposa West at 9:40 a.m. and had the fire in the four-story building under control by 10:10 a.m., according to OCFA Battalion Chief Mike Petro.
The blaze spread to three other units, he said, adding that six cats were rescued but a dog died.
