hours of fun. This outdoor swim and sun oasis includes a five-lane lap pool; tot’s wading pool

and splash pad; pool for recreational swimming; and an adult whirlpool.

Since opening in 2009, the Aquatic Center season has typically ran from May through

September. However, we wanted to make this facility more accessible to everyone, so my

colleagues and I recently approved a plan to keep the center open for extended months.

Starting Saturday, May 2, the Aliso Viejo Aquatic Center will be open most of the year offering

swim lessons, lap swim and play time as well as a youth and adult swim team.

Swim programs are already underway, but the facility will host a grand opening event May 2 to

celebrate the beginning of the extended season. The City is contracting with Premier Aquatic

Services to run the facility’s programs for infants through adults. Youth programs include parent-

and-me swim lessons, group learn-to-swim classes, private swim lessons for all ages, and as I

mentioned, the year-round swim team.

Adults and seniors can get fit in the pool, too, through the masters swim team, Aqua Zumba, lap

swim and the newest program Frogman, which offers participants lower-impact Cross-fit style

workouts in the pool and on deck.

In addition, the facility will offer birthday party opportunities and fun family events like kids’

night out, “dive-in” movies and holiday celebrations on Memorial Day, Labor Day, the 4th of

July and others. There will be affordable individual, family season and daily passes as well as

other opportunities to enjoy the pool. Since pool safety is so important, the City will also offer

CPR and lifeguard courses at the Aquatic Center.

I am excited about what’s on tap at the Aliso Viejo Aquatic Center this year. We will now have

one of the most robust aquatics programs in South County with something for everyone. I hope

you will join us on Saturday, May 2 for the season grand opening celebration. The fun takes

place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will feature a DJ and special games and events for families.
