Send a Tweet on the Importance of Education

Every hour of every school day, 857 students drop out of school in the U.S. To try and put an end to this unbelievable phenomenon that exists in 2012, the College Board, which tracks those statistics, is encouraging every individual with Internet access to participate in a unique online event that will make the issue of education a top priority when the two presidential candidates face off the next three months.

On Wednesday, the “Don’t Forget Ed” national movement will be sending messages to President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney via Twitter or Facebook on the importance of education for every boy and girl in every corner of America.

The College Board, a New York City-based advocacy group that promotes equity in education through programs for K-12 and high education institutions, is asking that individuals tweet a statement about the importance of education to the candidates by using the hashtag #dontforgeted.

“‘Don’t Forget Ed’ recognizes that education is the foundation of our society. Yet every four years, the issue of education is shockingly underplayed on the campaign trail,” said College Board President Gaston Caperton in a press release. “That’s why this year we are encouraging candidates all over the country to tell voters precisely how they would reverse the sharp decline of American education. Parents, teachers, students and administrators have had enough of the silence. This year they are speaking loud and clear, and the College Board is committed to amplifying their voices.”

In addition, the board is encouraging everyone to Sign up to receive a reminder on the day of the social media rally, or join the Facebook event.

The College Board also has produced a new video that supports its cause about the state of education in this country, and has created a petition to the two presidential candidates that can be signed here.
