Sheriff's Helicopter Wakes Aliso Viejo Searching For Domestic Violence Suspect

Aliso Viejo was awoken early Thursday with a circling Sheriff's helicopter.

In the earlier hours, reports of a middle-of-the-night search across Aliso Viejo that may have disturbed residents from their slumber, according to OCSD Lt. John MacPherson.

The OCSD responded to a call at approximately 1 a.m. Thursday morning, for domestic violence. When the suspect could not be located, they used Forward Looking Infra Red to assist the Aliso Viejo deputies with finding the suspect in question.

Stuart Smith, a self-employed 51-year-old resident of Aliso Viejo, was arrested on suspicion of vandalism and domestic violence, and is being held on $20,000 bail. His next court date is slated for Friday, Oct. 13.

"The suspect was hiding behind shrubbery when he was found," MacPherson said.
