Southland Gasoline Prices Continue Increasing

The 20th increase in the last 22 days is the result of rising crude oil prices—and not just in Southern California.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Orange County rose Friday for the 20th time in 22 days, increasing nine-tenths of a cent to $3.845, 3.8 cents more than one week ago. That’s also 15.3 cents higher than one month ago and 4.5 cents greater than one year ago.

“Oil prices are still in the $85-$90 a barrel range and providing some upward pressure to gas prices,” Spring stated. “However, other states have seen much larger price increases over the past month. Drivers in Chicago are now paying $3.98 on average, higher than any Southland area, while New York City drivers are paying $3.91 on average and Detroit gas is averaging $3.87.”

In Los Angeles County the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline also rose for the 21st time in 22 days, increasing six-tenths of a cent to $3.859. The average price has increased 16.7 cents over the past 22 days, and is now 3 cents more than one week ago, 12 cents higher than one month ago and 4.3 cents greater than one year ago.
