Stay AlertOC: Aliso Viejo Urges Residents to Register for Countywide Emergency Notifications

ALISO VIEJO, CA — Life is not an action movie, but unless you live under a rock Southern Californians know that there are perils related to living where the sun always shines.

Earthquakes, fires, mudslides and traffic accidents are just some of the major disasters that can befall residents. In September, in honor of National Preparedness Month, the City of Aliso Viejo is urging residents to register with AlertOC, a mass notification system designed to keep Orange County residents and businesses informed of emergencies.

"By registering with AlertOC, time-sensitive voice messages from the county or city of Aliso Viejo may be sent to your home, cell or business phone," the city officials stated in recent release.

Sign up for automated calls, or for text messages. Texts may also be sent to cell phones, email accounts and hearing-impaired receiving devices.

There will be a county-wide test of the emergency AlertOC system on Sept. 22 when a call is delivered to residents throughout Orange County.

"This system is essential during an emergency or disaster. In fact, mass notification systems have been attributed with saving lives during the 2007 Southern California wildfires by quickly notifying residents around the clock of evacuation instructions," the city stated.
