Schools

Summer Plans and Programs

Still looking for activities for your child this summer? Here are a few to look into.

Well, I hate to throw anyone into a panic mode.  However, here are the facts—this article is slated to be published on June 7.  If you are reading this on that very day, let me tell you this. The countdown has begun.

There are 12 days left of school!  After that, your kids belong to you completely for several weeks.  What will you do with them?

If you are like many parents, you have already made plans.  Your kids are enrolled in a sports camp, daycare program or they have a date with Grandma and Grandpa.  You have scoured the flyers that have come home from school, community and church programs and you have secured a spot for your child wherever you can.

If you haven’t had time to take a look at what is out there, here are a few of the local options for Fee-based programs:

  1. Capistrano Unified School District offers several educational classes, fun courses and sports camps through their Community Education Program.  Many of these are taught by credentialed teachers (I am teaching three courses this summer).  Click here to learn more.
  2. The YMCA will be hosting several different Day Camps at many of our neighborhood schools.  Click here to learn more.
  3. Soka University is offering Sports and Fitness classes.  Click here

As with any children’s program, check it out carefully before you write your check.  Make sure the place that you are choosing to leave your children is a safe and well staffed environment.  And if you do not find what you want in any of the above suggestions, keep looking.  You will find there are many more summer programs for kids available throughout the South Orange County area.

  • Saddleback College: “College for Kids”
  •  Saddleback School District: various recreation programs
  • Girls and Boys Club of Capistrano Valley: there is a day camp in Aliso Viejo
