Suspect In Gunfire Near Aliso Viejo Cigar Lounge Surrenders

ALISO VIEJO, CA – A man accused of firing a gun into the ground early today following a fight with another man at a cigar shop in Aliso Viejo surrendered to authorities hours later.

The shooting happened about 2 a.m. near Cigar & Spirits at 26731 Aliso Creek Road, according to Orange County sheriff's Lt. Lane Lagaret.

The suspect, who was not immediately identified, and another man got into an argument at the lounge and it continued outside the business, Lagaret said. The suspect punched the other man on the left side of the face, causing him to fall down, Lagaret said.

Two friends of the victim who ran outside to help him were confronted by the suspect, who lifted up his shirt to show them a silver revolver before running away, Lagaret said.

They ran after the suspect, but quickly lost sight of him. Moments later, the suspect allegedly fired several rounds into the ground near Grand Park, but no one was hurt, Lagaret said.

The two men who ran after the suspect were "extremely intoxicated and demanded to leave the scene" when questioned by investigators, Lagaret said. The victim was also "uncooperative," he said.

When the suspect learned that deputies were looking for him, he turned himself in about noon, Lagaret said.
