Wolverines Capture CIF Girls Soccer Championship
A second-half comeback earned Aliso Niguel a 2-1 victory over San Clemente in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 Championship for its first title since 2001.
Aliso Niguel's only loss in 24 girls soccer matches this season came on Feb. 8 in the final match of the regular season against its long-time and biggest foe, San Clemente.
On Friday night, the Wolverines earned a measure of revenge and then some.
Aliso Niguel captured its first CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship since winning the program's only CIF title in 2001 with a thrilling, come-from-behind 2-1 victory over San Clemente at Mission Viejo High.

The fourth-seeded Wolverines (19-1-5) were down 1-0 after the first half but took the lead on a pair of second-half goals and goaliekeeper Sammy Pru'domme made some big saves to shut down the Tritons.
The No. 2 seeded Tritons (17-3-8) extended their county record to five consecutive appearances in the CIF-SS Division 1 title match, but had their 17-match unbeaten streak snapped by the Wolverines. San Clemente is now 2-3 in their last five championship matches, including a 1-0 loss to Flintridge Sacred Heart in last season’s title match.
