5 Freeway Flooding/Mudslides Trap Panicked Drivers Near Altadena; Multiple SigAlerts Issued
At least two cars were trapped in two feet of flooding that shut down the northbound and southbound 5 Freeway near Altadena

ALTADENA, CA — The California Highway Patrol issued two SigAlerts for the Golden State (5) Freeway near Altadena Friday afternoon due to flooding and a massive pothole or open manhole on the freeway.
All lanes of the northbound 5 are blocked due to two feet of flooding that has trapped several vehicles, including a car full of hysterical juveniles, according to the CHP. All cars are being diverted off the freeway.
As of 4:50 p.m., crews were using water pumps to reduce the flooding.

According to the CHP, the three and four lanes of the northbound side of the freeway are closed indefinitely just north of West Alameda Avenue because of a gaping hole affecting the 3 and 4 lanes.
