Altadena Discount Store Fire Under Investigation

ALTADENA, CA -- An investigation is underway into Friday's non-injury fire that destroyed the contents of an Altadena discount store, where firefighters had to use cutting tools to gain access.

The fire was reported just after 11 p.m. Friday at Fair Oaks Avenue and Woodbury Road, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

First-arriving units saw heavy smoke and fire inside the business -- identified by the San Gabriel Valley Tribune as Joon's Discount -- before cutting their way inside, according the fire department.

"At this time the exact cause of the fire is under investigation," according to a department statement that said "most if not all" of the building's contents were damaged by fire, smoke and water and removed from the structure.

The circumstances do not appear to be suspicious, the fire department reported.
