Today's riddle: What did the Buffalo say when his son left? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. A local Realtor and nonprofit chief team up to move 100 old homes to Altadena — 'Brick by Brick' (pasadenastarnews.com) — Altadena residents rebuilding after the Eaton Fire may soon see historic homes moved into burned neighborhoods, thanks to a new nonprofit and a local Realtor teaming up. Their Altadena Brick by Brick initiative offers grants and relocated character houses to longtime, underinsured Altadenans, aiming to keep neighbors from being permanently displaced while restoring the town's unique charm.
2. Saint Mark's School Faculty and Staff Reunite for the New School Year (pasadenanow.com) — Saint Mark's School, with its main campus on Altadena Drive, has reunited faculty and staff and welcomed several new educators as they gear up for the coming school year. The team is energized to support local students and families, emphasizing community, learning, and a strong start on the Altadena campus.
3. Rent Board Moves Toward Asking City Council to Set an Indoor Heat Cap (pasadenanow.com) — Altadena renters will soon be covered by a new LA County rule requiring rental units to stay at or below 82 degrees indoors starting January 1, 2027. Pasadena isn't covered yet, but its rent board just agreed to ask the City Council to consider adopting a similar standard. The move highlights growing concern over extreme heat and tenant protections across the region.
4. Strict new landscaping rules will impact millions of Californians in fire-prone areas (dailydispatch.com) — New statewide "Zone Zero" rules will require homeowners in high fire-risk areas, including parts of Altadena, to clear plants and most combustibles within five feet of their homes over the next few years. The changes follow devastating 2025 wildfires, and some Altadena residents who recently rebuilt are frustrated by the added costs and restrictions. A CAL FIRE map shows which homes must comply.
