Today's riddle: What did the fish say when she hit a wall? 🤔 (Answer below!)
• California wildfire survivors told to use organic mulch as El Niño raises flood, toxic runoff risks (thecooldown.com) — Altadena fire survivors are being urged to prepare now for an El Niño winter by covering burned lots with organic mulch to reduce flooding, erosion, and toxic runoff. A pilot project with 14 Altadena property owners showed compost "blankets" can keep soil in place and storm drains cleaner, and experts outline practical steps—like sandbags, runoff channels, and safety gear—that residents can start using immediately.
• California could be first in the U.S. to set smoke-damage standards (thelalocal.org) — Altadena homeowners displaced by the 2025 fires are at the center of new California smoke-damage bills that could set the nation's first standards for testing and cleanup. If signed, the laws would force insurers to pay for environmental testing, follow clear remediation rules, and maintain living-expense support until homes are truly habitable, potentially reshaping how future Altadena fire claims are handled.
