What does "being your authentic self" mean? It's said so much, it's almost lost its impact. Living authentically means that wherever you are in life, BE there. Even if you're not in the greatest place in life - BE there. If you're not feeling like you're best self - BE there. This month I invite you to be authentically Who You Are no matter what. What is authentic? What is Truth? It's different for everyone, but one thing is for certain - when you encounter Truth you KNOW it. When you see authenticity, you KNOW it. When you hear it, you KNOW it. You feel it - in your bones, your soul, your heart - everywhere within your Be-ing. You just KNOW.
Being your authentic self is about having the courage to be exactly Who You Are as you are. It's giving yourself permission to fumble through life sometimes and to move forward despite of those fumbles. It's giving yourself permission not to be perfect. It's giving yourself permission to make mistakes. The more authentic you live your life the more you learn about Who You Are. Throughout the day you're making choices, one right after the other. You choose to go to work, or not. You choose to get up in the morning, or not. You choose to say good morning to those around you, or not. You choose to get into your car and drive to work, or not. You choose to have coffee in the morning, or not. When you consider how many choices you make within the few hours since waking up, you begin to realize how powerful you are at each moment throughout the day, every day. Whenever you CHOOSE to do something, the choice is YOURS.
The more authentic you are in your choices, the more empowered you become. You learn what you're made of and what kind of character you have. The more authentic you are, the less resistant you are to change. When you realize that it's time to change something in your life, you change it. When you live authentically, you learn what you value in life. You become more courageous. You understand that even though some choices sometimes have unintended consequences, you accept it and move forward; because you know you were acting within your own integrity at the time. Being your authentic self and living authentically is about being accountable for your choices in life. You'll find that when you allow yourself to Be Who You Are you're actually happier, more relaxed and feel more connected to others and the world around you. When you live authentically you realize that you're actually living a fuller, more engaged, more complete life because you're fully participating. You're not worried abouttomorrow, or "what if this, or that," you're literally going with the flow of life. In Eastern philosophy it's called going with the Natural Law. When you live authentically, your resistance to life decreases. And when your resistance to life is reduced, your peacefulness increases. Be-ing your Authentic Self simply grants you permission to BE.
