Health & Fitness

Do You Have 'Big Guns' or 'Golden Arches'?

Are you feeding your body junk and expecting a masterpiece?

I should say only wanting it 50%.  When you choose to destroy the progress that you've made on your Fitness, health and Nutrition journey by eating junk food you are doing your body a severe disservice.  I can't tell you how many times I have people come up to me asking for advice.  Weight loss, Nutrition, Diet, Fitness, etc.  Don't get me wrong, I love to help people but when the person is shoving a burger and fries into their mouth while you're trying to answer them it kind of defeats the purpose right?

I see it all the time.  People at the gym, working out hard.  Lifting heavier weights than I could ever lift.  Doing more sets than I could ever do.  Looking like the perfect model of fitness.  But are they?  We have to be totally committed to a healthy lifestyle when we decide to make it just that, a lifestyle.  When you see your personal trainer at the McDonald's drive-through then chances are, he or she is not practicing what they preach.

Take a lot of young people today.  They are at the gym every single day, working out for several hours a day.  Then you see them at the malls or local pizza places and they're downing a lot of pizza, fried foods and alcohol.  Being young and having "good genes" will only help them out for so long.  If they don't take the time to learn about proper nutrition now, what kind of shape do you think they're really in?  Will cholesterol and heart disease decide to spare them just because they work it off the next day or do we have to commit ourselves 100 % to this thing called Health?

Once and a while is it ok to have a fast food day? Sure, if you really really like it.  If you take the time to learn, prepare and enjoy healthy foods you will not only want to never eat fast food again but the smell will make you ill.  Bodybuilders, athletes and people involved in certain sports have special calorie requirements.  Does that mean they should fulfill those requirements at In & Out? No.  What outcome do you think a Triathlete would have if he consumed fried potatoes, pancakes with syrup and butter and greasy sausage and bacon before a race?

I understand a lot of people today are under certain time restraints.  You get home, you're tired and you don't really feel like making something for dinner.  If you take the extra time on weekends, in the morning or whenever you feel you have the time to do all the preparation beforehand, half the work is already done for you.  You're already half way there, don't undo all of your hard work and dedication by putting the wrong fuel in your gas tank.  Give your body the best chance it has to become healthy by feeding  it fresh and healthy ingredients.  You'll be surprised how much energy you have as a result and how much harder and longer you can work out as your body becomes stronger.

So the next time you go for that nice run, walk the track or lift weights at the gym go home and eat that beautiful healthy salad you prepared before you left.  Not only will your body thank you but your wallet will too!
