Burbank Construction Could be Done in Phases

The latest plan for the Altadena elementary school campus is to make changes in phases that could see some work put off for Winter 2011 or later.

A plan to transform the Burbank Elementary School campus to host several pre-schools, a non-profits, and a mental health center could be done over time rather than all right away, according to the latest staff report on the issue.

The original plan, which we've written about , would have had construction and relocation of the new programs completed by this upcoming Fall.

Under the new plan, the a PUSD mental health program that is currently housed at McKinley Elementary would be moved to the campus this summer, which would require some construction on campus.

A plan to move some a staff development program to the campus is also listed in Phase 3.

In the long term, Phase 4, district officials would look into starting a new elementary school educational attainment program at the campus.

The entire cost of the project is estimated at about $650,000, much greater than the $150,000 to $170,00 price tag in the original staff report.

The new project will be presented at a meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at the Burbank Elementary School, and then will be voted on at Tuesday's night's board meeting.

Editor's note: The original version of this article mistakenly read that the Pasadena Mental Health Center would be relocated to the Burbank campus.
